About Story County Criminal History

Story County records are divided among the sheriff, the Iowa District Court, the Iowa Department of Public Safety Division of Criminal Investigation, Iowa Corrections, and the Iowa Sex Offender Registry. The county seat of Nevada brings several local offices together at the Justice Center, but each office still maintains a different record. This private reference resource organizes the official portals, request routes, addresses, and telephone contacts needed to reach the correct custodian.

Why We Built This Site

Iowa permits access to many public records, yet access depends on asking the right custodian. The Story County Sheriff's Office maintains deputy reports, jail and booking material, and certain sheriff-held warrant information. The clerk of the Iowa District Court maintains filed charges, docket entries, orders, dispositions, and certified court documents. DCI provides Iowa criminal-history checks, while Iowa Corrections supplies custody and supervision information. The Iowa Sex Offender Registry serves a separate public-notification role. Bringing those official routes together makes it easier to distinguish a police report from a booking entry, court file, state history, or registry profile.

What We Cannot Do

This resource is privately operated and has no affiliation with Story County, an Iowa court, a law-enforcement agency, or any state office. Its role has firm limits:

  • It cannot obtain an official criminal-history check or retrieve a record for a visitor
  • It cannot submit an expungement petition, open-records request, or other filing for anyone
  • It cannot certify a court document, criminal-history report, or agency record
  • It cannot offer legal advice about an individual charge, warrant, case, or remedy
  • It cannot promise that an agency's address, fee, hours, or procedure has not changed

An official copy must come from the office that maintains it, such as the Story County sheriff, the Iowa District Court clerk, or Iowa DCI. This resource can identify the route, but it cannot issue the document.

Search Partners

Search fields on some pages are supplied by independent providers. Each provider controls its own service, results, policies, and prices. A referral payment may be earned if a visitor follows one of those tools and purchases a service. That support helps keep the public reference material available without charge, but it does not give this resource control over a partner's data or fees.
